2. About Dark Tea Bricks
Dark Tea is an unique type of tea made by post fermentation with a more than 600 years history. In China, it is usually called Border-Sale Tea which was originally exported to other provinces, especially to West-North area of China. It was also one of the first teas to travel the ancient trading routes of the Tea Road and the Silk Road into eastern Russia. In order to ease the carriage of tea during transportation, tea leaves were compressed into brick form.
Due to the high value of tea in many parts of Asia, dark tea bricks were used as a form of currency throughout China, Tibet, Mongolia, and Central Asia. Until World War II, dark tea bricks were still used as a form of edible currency in Siberia.
